Judge Lee replies, "Given that the legislature does not define 'pet' in the statute, we should assume that they meant the common, dictionary definition of the word.

"According to the dictionary, a pet is 'an animal that is tamed or domesticated and kept as a companion or treated with fondness.'

"A rock is not an animal, and by definition cannot be tamed or domesticated. Therefore it is irrelevant whether it is treated with fondness - one might as well evict someone over having a favorite shirt. We should overturn the eviction."
